Alito new Supreme Court nominee
Fists are being held high and words are flying across the political stratosphere as lawmakers and the public react to President Bush's nomination of Samuel Alito as new Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. While I havent done enough reading to make any judgements on his character or qualities, evidently others have had more time on their hands or lacked the same restraint.
Bush, naming a replacement for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor four days after Miers withdrew her name, said Alito "has a deep understanding of the proper role of judges in our society."
"This is a needlessly provocative nomination," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee that will conduct hearings on Judge Alito.
