Colorado Ballet Unionizes
Its official, the Colorado Ballet has joined the ranks of other large American dance companies and successfully voted to unionize. In a 26 to 5 vote hosted by the National Labor Relations Board company members overwhelmingly approved what has become a national trend towards increased outsider representation.
Company management has been fully supportive of the dancer’s movement towards unionization. More commonly face with administrations of a hostile disposition it should be interesting to see how AGMA responds to such an unusual counterpart. The process of drawing contracts should begin shortly; from there we might begin to see more clearly what concessions both sides will be forced to make.
