Dai Ailian

The New York Times reported today that Dai Ailian, the women most directly responsible for bringing ballet to China passed away earlier this month. While Americans will most likely remember her as a juror in the 1990 New York International Ballet Competition she spent most of her life in England and China. In London she studied with Anton Dolin before traveling to her native China. With her knowledge of ballet Dai Ailian also brought Labanotation to China and worked to introduced Chinese Folk dance to the western world.
